If you rely on eyeglasses every day, you want them to serve you well and last long time. But as careful with them as you are, there’s a good chance that one or both lenses will eventually get scratched.
Quality meets reliability at the office of Southeast Eye Group. Our service and top-notch attention to our patients and customers set us apart from the rest. From eye exams to a large variety of eyeglass frames, we’re with you every step of the way.
Most scratches are minor and won’t affect your view. Major scratches, though, can be really annoying, strain your eyes and give you a headache. You might want to consider replacing the lens, but preventing the dings in the first place is your best line of defense.
When contemplating the kinds of coated lenses you want, there are three main types. The first two are ultraviolet and anti-reflection. Thirdly, there’s anti-scratch. If you frequently take your glasses off throughout the day, the lenses are subject to common perils such as as falling on the floor, being pushed up against a rough surface or getting knocked around. Protective coating on the fronts and backs of lenses provides a barrier.
Glasses-wearers of all ages benefit from scratch-resistant lenses. Anyone can fall victim to random scrapes, marks and grazes. This is especially true of eyewear with polycarbonate (impact-resistant) and high-index (made slimmer and lighter for high prescriptions) lenses, both of which are prone to abrasions.
Keep scratches at bay with these tips. Stow them in a sturdy, cloth-lined case when not in use. Clean them with moistened eyeglass lens wipes, a microfiber scratch-free cloth or spray specifically for eyeglass lenses. In a pinch, put a drop of dishwashing (not dishwasher!) liquid on a piece of facial tissue and gently wash and rinse. Keep the anti-scratch coating intact by never using nail polish remover, paint thinner or products such as Windex. Lastly, never place your glasses on a hard surface with the lenses down.
Experience the difference that Southeast Eye Group makes. Superiority is our signature, and satisfaction is our promise.
