Folks who wear prescription eyeglasses want to get the most benefit from them and have them last a long time. That’s why you want to get the lens coating (or coatings) that are best for your wants and needs.
Count on the professionals at the office of Southeast Eye Group to help you pick out the coat that’s best for your needs and taste. Our optometry specialists take immense pride in their jobs, and they prioritize top-notch customer service and satisfaction.
Here’s are the three main types of coatings.
Ultraviolet (UV)
UV coating is a dye on the lens that obstructs your eyes from being exposed to the sun’s UV rays. Too much exposure raises your risk of eye diseases such as cataracts, eye cancers, growths on the eye (which can happen to people as young as teenagers) and snow blindness.
Anti-Scratch
If you frequently take your glasses off throughout the day, the glasses—and, hence, the lenses—are subject to such common perils as falling on the floor, being ground up against a rough surface or getting knocked around. The back and front of a lens that’s been treated with a protective coating provides a barrier between it and many forms of harm.
Anti-Reflection
A thin coating applied in layers to the lens stops the front and back from reflecting what’s around it. The layers also stop the glare from computer screens and oncoming headlights while driving at night. Another benefit: People you’re talking to in-person see your eyes instead of their own reflections.
